OIL TATOO #3

Oil Tatoos are murals painted with olive oil on wall. The oil leaves a first vivid then faint trail making the eye play between sharp and unsharp.
The paintings show motives taken from my family album – representing unique and eternal moments of Palestinian family history ranging from the 1930s to today.
Every Oil Tatoo is chosen and created according to the assignment and specific to the site.

With this work I want to make the beauty and love for Palestinian culture in German speaking cultures more visible. By putting Palestinian presence into public space in all its fragility, I want to change the fact that Palestinian voices and testimonies are muted and generally subjected to denial.

In this way I want to raise the question if the unparallel is the straight crossing parallel or if it can be thought as a snake-like winding movement.

I created this technique for the first time in 2007 to draw a family portrait of my grandparents with their seven children around 1955 in Jenin which has received the annual award of Land Salzburg at Salzburger Kunstverein/Austria in 2007/8.
